the United States Internal Revenue Service. Tax-exempt status was granted in November 2005 and is retroactive back to the date of creation of the Foundation: April 21, 2004. You may deduct donations from your federally-taxable income. Please contact
a tax professional for the details of deducting such a donation.
We have been serving Indianapolis for 7 years, 3 months.
We want to take a moment to ask you for your help in continuing our mission. IndyEthnicFood is facing new challenges and
encountering new opportunities, and both are going to require major funds.
Drew and John pour a lot of time and effort into IndyEthnicFood. For us, IndyEthnicFood is a labor of love
which we very much enjoy. But, like most everything else, there is a financial cost. To date, IndyEthnicFood has been entirely
privately financed. Now that the site has gained 501c3 nonprofit corporation status, we will seek grant funding and underwriting
opportunities. But, there are no guarantees for these types of financing. So, we are asking you, our loyal patrons, for your
financial assistance.
The purpose of our request is two-fold. First, it represents our initial attempt to raise funds for the site. We believe those who
have benefited most from the site in the past—our patrons who use its features to investigate Indy’s ethnic cuisine scene—are those
who we can most legitimately ask for a modest initial donation. The second purpose of our request is tied closely to the first.
When we begin the process of soliciting financial support from funding agencies, our requests will be received much more
seriously if we can state that a healthy percentage of those who use the services provided by IndyEthnicFood have also been
willing to support it financially in the past. Funding agencies are seldom willing to invest their money in unsupported causes
that simply need financial support to survive. They are much more willing to support the efforts of causes that (a) are currently
successful (as IndyEthnicFood is), (b) have enthusiastic and feasible plans for the future (which IndyEthnicFood has), and (c)
are supported by those who use their services (which we hope will occur as a results of this request). Please help us to create the
evidence that IndyEthnicFood is a sound philanthropic investment.
